Spotlight on Marrie Stone co-host of The Chat Room |
by: Barbara DeMarco-Barrett
You were PA director for the last two years, you co-host with me “Writers on Writing,” you have a daughter, a husband, and you’re a writer. What form of insanity convinced you to take on another show?
It’s always seemed to me there was an obvious hole in the Public Affairs’ schedule. We have legal shows, medical shows, shows about film, books, elves, food, and politics, but nothing focused on intimate relationships. For a college campus, with college-aged students as our targe...

Chromatics - Kill For Love – (Italians Do It Better)
Ultra-violent, sadistic, and decadent Caligulatic everyday=youth blissed out and perfected synth-pop that is 'banned in over seven countries worldwide', documenting what attracts an audience to the aesthetics of 'coolness' as inherently dangerous, weighty, nondescript, and minimal. While most of the 80s revival fall short of being interesting and self-sustaining, Kill For Love is consumes you via its self-aware and interesting recycling of ...

Various Artists – Listen to the Music (Pressure Sounds UK)
Listen to the Music is a stellar compilation of 21 Caltone recordings that span the years 1966 to 1969. Included are tracks by Tommy McCook and the Supersonics, the Clarendonians, as well as many rare 45s that have never been re-issued since the original Jamaican pressings. According to the Pressure Sounds press release, “It was Bun...

Why There's
No Money in My 401(k)
A Diary of Obsessive Materialism (Vol. 6) |
by Kyle Olson

obsessively cataloged and organized and poured over track by track (Seriously,
it's obsessive. It involves post-it notes and code and excel spreadsheets).

But, since I am consuming so much music, I thought I could use this constant
influx for the powers of good. Should I come across anything worth sharing
(either a new release or an old favorite), I will share them with you.
So you'll love me.
Mi Ami — Steal Your Face (Thrill Jockey)
There is a lot of really shitty music. The entertainment industry is full of incredibly bland, boring, trite, un-energetic, passionless crap. And there's stuff like San Francisco trio Mi Ami, who work themselves into a lather laying down visceral junkyard dance...
