Mixtapers of the World Unite An Interview with Brian Dishon |
by: Erica M. Medrano
Brian Dishon is the host of The Old Weird America (currently on hiatus) and creator of the Mixtape Preservation Society, a mixtape exchange collective made up of die-hard music lovers and all-around creative folk.
What brought you to the mixtape movement? What inspired you to create the Mixtape Preservation Society?
A few years ago, I was fascinated and kind of repulsed by the ease with which we’re able to access information over the Internet. We have easier acc...

Jesse Ruins - Dream Analysis – (Captured Tracks )
Today I read an article about how scientist working in Antarctica have just drilled through four kilometers of ice-crust to a sub-glacial lake known as Lake Vostok. What is interesting about Lake Vostok is that its waters have been isolated from the Earth's atmosphere for over 20 million years, making it a closed ecosystem that has potential to contain all sorts of undiscovered life. Spotlight on Dmitriy host of "Countdown UCI" |
by: Barbara DeMarco-Barrett
A talk with Dmitriy, public affairs host of "Countdown UCI,” airing every Friday at 4:00 pm Pacific time.

Why There's
No Money in My 401(k)
A Diary of Obsessive Materialism (Vol. 6) |
by Kyle Olson
In an effort to fulfill some bizarre
need in my life, I purchase a lot of CDs, both old and new. They are
obsessively cataloged and organized and poured over track by track (Seriously,
it's obsessive. It involves post-it notes and code and excel spreadsheets).
It is truly a labor of love (and an unhealthy psychological imperative).
But, since I am consuming so much music, I thought I could use this constant
influx for the powers of good. Should I come across anything worth sharing
(either a new release or an old favorite), I will share them with you.
So you'll love me.
Mi Ami — Steal Your Face (Thrill Jockey)
There is a lot of really shitty music. The entertainment industry is full of incredibly bland, boring, trite, un-energetic, passionless crap. And there's stuff like San Francisco trio Mi Ami, who work themselves into a lather laying down visceral junkyard dance...
